Walking football is a team sport primarily available for women 40+ and men 50+ years, of all backgrounds, skill, abilities and fitness levels. It is a version of football where players walk instead of run. It is designed to help people get fit or maintain an active lifestyle and good physical and mental health, no matter what their age and fitness. The idea is for participants to engage, have fun, increase their levels of physical exercise, meet new friends and enjoy a bit of team banter before, during and after the session.
Walking Football is open for all participants regardless of their playing abilities or fitness levels. Experience is not necessary; many men & women may not have played football, or any sport at all since school.
Regardless of age, relative competitiveness can play an important part of the enjoyment, and therefore we regularly swap players from one team to another to keep the games as equal and fair as possible.
Playing Walking Football benefits participants and their family and friends in a variety of different ways. Ensuring people understand these potential benefits of walking football is crucial to achieving Our Aims and to attracting, gaining and maintaining participants. Some of these benefits include:
Becoming more active in later years, injecting energy into retirement.
Improving mental and physical health, fitness and well-being.
Increasing interest and therefore understanding of healthy eating and nutrition.
Lowering heart rate, blood pressure and obesity.
Improving immune system and digestive functioning.
Enhancing mobility, flexibility, stability and balance, whilst increasing muscle mass.
Reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and dementia.
Initiates a feeling of belonging (to something).
Enhances quality time with children and grandchildren.
Prolongs independence.
Gives an ability to rediscover a competitive side.
Creates a new ambition to achieve the most out of life.
Strengthens the desire to reach potential.
Boosts knowledge and skills, and new technologies.
Relieves stress and encourages optimism.
Improves sleep, especially to anyone suffering insomnia.
Increases self-esteem, concentration and confidence.
Provides an opportunity to build a new community.
Encourages social interaction to avoid isolation.
Gives participants new things to talk about with their families and friends.
Provides a forum for meeting new people, making new friendships/ rekindling old ones.
Experiencing enjoyment and fun in physical activity at your own pace.
Improves memory.
Whilst CCAM acknowledges Football Australia's "Walking Football Laws of Game", and abide by them in competitive games, we have adapted these rules for our Social Walking Football Rules of Play to better suit the "Social" aspects of this version of Walking Football.
