WF Player Induction
Rules of Play
Walking Football is a modified version of football, designed to keep people of all ages physically and mentally active and healthy and involved in football throughout their lives.
Player safety is most important
Dangerous kicking is not allowed
No contact is allowed
No tackling from behind allowed
No tackling from the side allowed
No slide tackles allowed
Front-on tackling is allowed, but no contact
Heading is not allowed
High kicks are not allowed
The goal crossbar is the maximum ball height allowed
Field players are not allowed in the goal area
Goalkeepers are not allowed out of the goal area
If the ball rebounds high off the goalkeeper, making a save, and stays in play, a goal kick is awarded
If the ball rebounds high off the goalkeeper, making a save, and goes out of play, a corner or sideline kick-in is awarded
There are no goalkeepers in social games
There are no offsides
Kick-ins replace throw-ins
All free kicks are indirect
Only penalties are direct
Any player (except goalkeepers) can score
Goals can only be scored from inside the opposing team’s half of the pitch
The primary focus of walking football is a safe activity for all players; for this reason, excessive force when kicking the ball (shooting or passing) is not allowed:
A player kicking the ball with excessive force, in the opinion of the referee, will be penalised with a free kick to the opposing team
A player kicking the ball with excessive force and/or in a dangerous way, either deliberate or accidental, will be penalised by an automatic 2-minute sin bin penalty
The referee’s determination of excessive force and/or dangerous play is final
Players must remain at least 3 metres away for the following:
free kicks taken by the opposing team
kick-ins by the opposing team
corners taken by the opposing team
goal kicks by the opposing goalkeeper
kicks/throws by the opposing goalkeeper after making a save
all players must be behind the ball when a penalty is being taken (except the defending goalkeeper)
The boundary fences are not part of the playing field:
if the ball touches either side fence, it is treated the same as a throw-in – only it’s a kick-in, taken from 1m away from the fence
A player touching the fence will result in a free kick to the opposing team, unless the referee deems it to be an accidental touch
Players can not hold the fence or lean on it. A kick in will be awarded
If the ball touches either end fence, it will be either a corner or a goal kick.
All referees are just club members, helping to make the game better for everyone:
Referee’s decision is final – even if they get it wrong
The referee can’t always see everything in the field of play – they’re doing their best
Don’t like the referee’s decision? … that’s unfortunate, it’s not up for argument! See the first dot point above
Respect and support your referees
